This month our focus is on Eye Health.

Do you suffer from sore, itchy, tired eyes? Or are your eyes often watery and scratchy?

If so, you could be suffering from dry eye -a condition caused by computer use, air conditioning, aging and or hormonal changes. It can also be caused by some medications.

The surface of the eye is covered in a thin layer of liquid called the tear film -it keeps the surface of the eye moist, however if it becomes depleted it may be unable to completely coat the eye which can result in dryness.

It is important to talk through your symptoms so that the staff can advise you on the appropriate treatment or refer you to your GP or optometrist for further investigation.

Here at Care Pharmacy we recommend the Systane family of products. There is a range of products designed to treat a range of symptoms. If you have never tried lubricating drops talk to Janine and she can give you a free sample to try.

Other products to aid eye health:

Systane Ultra
Fish oil eye health
Vision food

Delwyn Galbraith announced as a finalist in the PHARMACY AWARDS 2015

Delwyn, our retail manager here at Care Pharmacy has been  announced  as a finalist in the Pharmacy Awards. Her entry was in the Voltaren Retail Superstar category and she focused on compressionwear.

Delwyn has been consulting with customers regarding compression, taking measurements to get a perfect fit, discussing options of stockings and also giving them a personal demonstration on how to correctly put on and take of the stockings. Delwyn also stores all the measurements for reference so it's easy to see a history for each individual customer.

You may have already seen her video where she shows us how to correctly fit compression socks. If not you can watch it here.

Judges from this year's Pharmacy Today/Guild Pharmacy Awards say all the finalists should consider themselves worthy, as the standard was exceptionally high this year.

We are very proud of you Delwyn - Best of luck in the finals!

Care Pharmacy Hastings supporting Glaucoma Awareness

Glaucoma NZ

July is Glaucoma Awareness month. Here at Care Pharmacy we are having eye health month and encouraging everyone to be proactive and take care of their eyes.

Glaucoma is often called the "silent thief of sight" because it can slowly steal your sight without you being aware of it. If you are 45 years of older you should have an eye exam every 5 years and every 3 years from 60.

More than half of New Zealanders with Glaucoma don't know the have it and you can be legally blind before you notice symptoms.

Come in and talk to Janine today about this or any other eye issues. If you would like to read more about this or make a donation, please visit Glaucoma NZ.

Below Janine talks about the correct way to instill eye drops into the eyes.
